VELAZQUEZ, VAN EYCK, MONET, RUBENS, AND DA VINCI..OH MY!

Discovering the vast world of Art history in the spring of last year, I was a bit excited to visit the National Gallery.  The National Gallery holds pieces from Diego Velazquez, Van Eyck, Bronzino, Monet, Peter Paul Rubens, and Leonardo da Vinci.  I was most excited about seeing paintings from Velazquez, being his painting Las Meninas is one of my favorite. His depiction of King Philip IV of Spain daughter Margaret in her natural environment is done beautifully; he even painted himself into the portrait which says a lot about his position within the Spanish Royal family.

Another artist I love is Claude Monet who was a big impressionist artist, for those who do not know Impressionist time in history was one of the biggest and best times in art.  Monet is included in the story of how Vincent van Gogh ear went missing seeing as they were good friends. My favorite painting by Monet is his Water Lily Pond. This painting shows a sense motion with a sense of peace. Taking one look at this paint you feel a wave of calm overcome you as if you are on the other side of the pond taking in the beauty of it all.  The national Gallery will be getting another visit from me where I can spend as much time as I like taking in the beauty and history of such marvelous artwork.
