I arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International
Airport about 7:00 pm making my way through check-in and security arriving at my
gate about 7:30. After sitting for a while we received the news that our flight
was delayed from 9:20 to 11:30. Forgot to mention a big storm rolled into
Atlanta just a few hours before my arriving at the airport. Such a bad start to a trip…just a little bit
after that it was delayed to about 12:15. We finally boarded the plane about
12:45.
Our trip was an 8 hour flight! I originally had the middle seat which is always a nightmare for me because I get claustrophobic. Thanks to the kind older gentleman who wanted to sit with his wife I was offered the window seat while he took my middle seat. Of course everything comes with a price…..the man in front of me decided to recline his seat as far as it would go. Luckily I’m a tiny person and didn't really lose much space. After getting comfortable in my new seat I chatted with the lifesaver next to me and discovered he and his wife were headed to Italy for a vacation and he was just as equally excited to learn my reason for going to London.

Arriving at London Heathrow about 1:00 pm and going through
customs which was fairly easier than I thought. We met up with a member of AIFS
who would be transporting us to our housing.
A little miscommunication and 2.5 hour bus ride later I arrived at Hampden
House on Weymouth Street where I will be living for the next six weeks. I was excited to arrive at my new home
because I didn't sleep on the plane and jet-lagged had begun attacking me.
Fighting to stay awake was a difficult task. I began unpacking all of my things and getting
settled in.
My first task of living in London was visiting our local
Sainsbury for groceries. Not much that I
recognized but I was able to pick up a few things. Quickly I learned that
London was a very expensive city and all my original plans went out the window and
a new explore as you go option became my new thing.
After arriving back from my grocery adventure I had a frozen
pizza, showered and begin enjoying something I haven’t done in almost 24 hours……..SLEEP!
Picture I took of Harrods on our bus ride to housing.
